PostSubject: Text on a Path (circle, square)   Tue 27 Mar - 19:56

This tut will show you how to get your text to wrap around shapes, circles are the most common ones we see text on in tags.

Open up a new image and click on your Ellipse Tool

Next draw out your circle to the size you need.

Now click on your text tool and make the cursor hoover over the edge of the circle. You will notice it changes shape, click on the edge of the circle to begin typing. Your text will wrap around the circle as you type.

You can edit your text just like you can regularly. Make any adjustments you need to font size and color.

Choose your Pick Tool and you will be able to move the text over on the path to center it like you want to.

Now that you have your text all fixed, you want to hide the circle it's on.

Look over to your layers palette and you will see a + sign by your layer, click on it. I have the spot where it will be in the red box below. When you click the + sign it will show you the 2 parts of that layer.

Now, see where it says New Ellipse? Click the little eye next to that part of the layer and it will hide the circle.

Now all you will have is your text. Click the - sign by your layer to collapse it all down again and rasterize it. Now you have your curved text for your siggy!!

Now for PhotoShop:

Open a new canvas and choose your Ellipse Tool

Now go up to the top and make sure Paths is clicked in the control bar.

Now draw out your circle as large as you need it.

Now click on your Text Tool and move the cursor over the edge of your circle. It will change shapes. To type on the outside of the circle make sure the cursor changes to a little line, to type on the inside of the circle, it will change to a circle.
Now click on the edge of the circle and type your text. You can edit it like normal.

Now you can click to accept your text and to hide the path, click Control Enter again and it will hide the path for you. Now you can use your Move Tool to position the text. Rasterize your layer when you have done all your text editing and you will be done!

HERE is a tut on text on a path in GIMP. I've never used GIMP, so I can't tell you about it..but I will link you to tuts I find!
